Express Entry

The Express Entry is a selection system for the Federal government to manage applications for permanent residence via the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Trades (FST) and some provincial nomination programs.

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) assesses applicants based on the following: age, education, language proficiency, etc. Those with highest score will receive an invitation. The Express Entry is designed to select the best candidates and to speed up the assessment process.

The whole process can be completed online. Those who submit applications through Express Entry will obtain permanent residence within six months at the earliest.

Federal Skilled Workers (FSW)

  • Language requirement: At least 6 points in each ability of IELTs.
  • Work experience.
  • Employment.
  • 67 out of 100 points of the following selection criteria:
    • education,
    • language,
    • age,
    • work experience,
    • arranged employment and adaptability.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

  • Work experience in Canada in NOC 0, A or B.
  • Language requirement: At least 6 points in each ability of IELTS for NOC 0 or A, at least 5 points in listening, speaking and writing and 4 points in reading for NOC B.

Federal Skilled Trades (FST)

  • Language requirement: At least 5 points for listening and speaking skills, 3.5 points for reading skills and 4 points for writing skills.
  • Work experience.
  • A job offer or a certificate or qualification in the skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial body.
  • Occupations are limited to a few categories in NOC, such as cooks, carpenters, electricians.
